Evolve Mixed Martial Arts (Evolve MMA) is a chain of martial arts academies and home to one of the leading teams in mixed martial arts. It was founded by Chatri Sityodtong in 2008. [1]

Background

Based in Singapore, Evolve Mixed Martial Arts is Asia's premier brand of MMA academies. Evolve ranks among the best academies in the world for Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. With over 500 years of championship experience, the Evolve Instructor Team is the largest and most experienced team in Asia. It has World Champions in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing, and No-Gi Grappling. [2]

There are currently two Evolve MMA campuses in Singapore, POMO and Far East Square. [3] Evolve MMA is affiliated to both the Renzo Gracie Academy and Sityodtong Muay Thai. [4] There is also an Evolve gym in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil and Chatri Sityodtong has stated that he wants to open an Evolve MMA camp in every major Asian city. [5]

Evolve MMA has been described as 'the top MMA camp in Asia' by Bloody Elbow. [6] Rich Franklin described it as the best camp he had ever trained at [7] and Middle Easy described it as 'the best gym ever'. [8] Bleacher Report also stated that 'Evolve MMA out of Singapore is already shooting up the ranks as one of the best teams in the world.' [9] In 2010 Rafael Dos Anjos told Fighter's Only Magazine that 'In fighting, you are only as good as your team and I have one of the best teams in the world at Evolve MMA'. [10] In September 2011 CNN described Evolve MMA as Asia's number one-ranked MMA-training organization. [11]

The Evolve Fight Team

The most high profile members of the Evolve MMA fight team are DREAM Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki and UFC lightweight contender Rafael Dos Anjos. Rich Franklin has also spent time training at Evolve MMA. [7]

Evolve MMA has the highest concentration of champions of any gym on the planet according to MMA website Middle Easy. [5] A number of Evolve MMA fighters featured on Singapore based promotion Martial Combat in 2010 including Arthur Cesar, Mitch Chilson, Zorobabel Moreira, Brian Choi and Leandro Issa. [12]

In 2011 Brian Choi and Zorobabel Moreira both fought for Dare Championship's inaugural event in Bangkok. Both men won their fights at Dare Championship 1/11 by unanimous decision.

ONE Fighting Championship announced on July 14th, 2011 that it had added multiple Evolve MMA fighters to it's roster including Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn, Eddie Ng, Zorobabel Moreira, Yodsanan Sityodtong, Mitch Chilson, Leandro Issa, Orono Wor Petchpun, Radeem Rahman and Yoddecha Sityodtong.[13]

Five members of the Evolve MMA fight team will be on the card at ONE Fighting Championship: Champion vs. Champion at the 12,000 capacity Singapore Indoor Stadium on September 3rd, 2011. Phil Baroni and Gregor Gracie will both be preparing for their fights at ONE Fighting Championship: Champion vs. Champion at Evolve MMA and Renzo Gracie is also flying in to help coach the fight team. On July 17th, 2011 it was announced that Shinya Aoki would be defending his Dream Lightweight title against Rob McCullough at Dream 17. [15] On August 16th a fight between Rafael Dos Anjos</ref> and Gleison Tibau was confirmed for UFC 139 on November 19th. [16] On August 17th it was announced that Rodrigo Ribeiro would be fighting Wade Henderson at Dare Championship 2/11. [17]

On December 15, 2011 Chatri Sityodtong was named by MSN as being one of the head coaches of the year alongside the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho. [18]
